We are hobby breeders particularly passionate about the breed of Miniature American Shepherd, also referred to as “Mini American”, Miniature Australian Shepherd or "Mini Aussie". Breeding is an honored family tradition for us. It has been a tremendous privilege to have always experienced a lifestyle that incorporated the canine species into our daily lives.
Temperament Breeding is a paramount part of our practice, with focus on striving for a more ideal representation of the breed within “established standards”, as well as genetic health and favorable disposition. Care for our pets includes adequate, gut health, nutrition & ample exercise which is certainly necessitated by this magnificent very lively breed.
With an ideal representation of this breed, owners can be made to look like fantastic trainers, but the truth is known by Mini American owners. Mini Americans are intelligent, sensitively quick learners!
In 2013, with the launch of much research, we began the process of switching to the breed of Miniature American (Australian) Shepherd. We adopted our gorgeous Dam, Lila, in 2015. Patiently we waited to adopt a Sire, while responsibly monitoring our Dam for a few years. Doing anything right can't be rushed. We adopted our fabulous Sire, Whaggzz, in 2018. Both of our dogs are very much part of our lifestyle. We embrace a active and healthy lifestyle, so the Mini American is a great fit. We both train each other & benefit from the precious moments that we share. The result is greater health, joy and love in this journey of life. My Lila helped me in ways that no human is apparently capable of. For those who either exercise an active lifestyle or who are dedicated to meeting this breed where it is at and rehabilitating into a healthy active lifestyle, this breed is a priceless gift.
The popularity of the Mini American has increased. We have experienced and identified poor practices as well as sound practices and plenty of various practices in between. Essentially, sound breeding practices are personified by breeders that at least abide by the policies and regulations of a reputable registry service. Our practice acts to protect the breed as well as our customers. We embrace the well established American Kennel Club (AKC) where our dog's pedigree is registered. A history that includes other registry clubs/services has been involved in the representation which we all presently have access too. We acknowledge and appreciate what the various applicable registry clubs have accomplished toward maintaining the integrity of this fabulous breed, and the eventual contribution to the relatively recent recognition by the AKC (2011). This breed is the direct result of knowledgeable American Breeders, who we applaud and we are very proud to inherit their great gift to canine lovers.
We think of our practice as being different in great ways, with an emphasis on ensuring as ideal a "great fit" as much as possible with the expectation of a lifelong commitment. We do not coerce or stronghold to ensure sales. We truly care about our baby’s babies being in as ideal of a situation as possible. We do all that we know to ensure the great fit. Folks, who have adopted from us, claim to have experienced a perfect thorough and comfortable adoption process resulting in ownership of a quality dog, representing the breed well. This is achieved by 1) painstakingly investing many hours into locating a great representation, 2) actually knowing and understanding the breed well and 3) seriously investing into what we refer to as the “great fit factor”. Our interview process contributes to the great fit that we strive to facilitate.
Our Mini Americans are from a pedigree of dogs that have been genetically tested by a professional laboratory, with specificity to the breed, resulting in certifications of clear genetic health. We offer a full one year Genetic Health Guarantee. We exercise a straightforward approach with the goal of assurance and safety. Early in our puppies life we invest in Microchip Implants. Tails docked, unless otherwise agreed not to by selective prospective buyers, by a licensed professional Veterinarian, who also administers age appropriate vaccinations, deworming and overall professional health inspection, all of this complete with documentation.
Our Mini Americans are highly socialized, well trained (appropriate with age). There’s not a thing that we know to do more, towards providing an ideal adoption process and ownership satisfaction. We are convinced that Miniature Americans are among the best canines available. We simply desire to perpetuate the integrity of this awesome breed as we carefully pass this blessing on.
There’s a good chance that you’re seeking to own a pedigree pet for the same reasons that we strive to establish ourselves as a reputable breeder. Hopefully you are prepared to approach us with educated inquires as well as healthy and reasonable expectations. We assure you that we strive to be the best experience that you can encounter as well as achieve a superior level of satisfaction. Our Americans Shepherds health, well being and adoption by capable, adequate and competent folks, is the priority.
None of what we want to be, as a responsible breeder or ownership of a great representation of the Miniature American Shepherd, is possible without all of the wonderful contributing folks who saw fit to contribute to this magnificent breed. With the continuous benefit of the regulations and oversight of registry clubs, this breed has been protected. Our Mini Americans are the result of breeders having dedicated countless time, effort and finances toward perpetuating the finer aspects of this breed and protecting its integrity. The recognized health concerns are essentially eliminated from our dog’s gene pools via genetic testing and sound breeding practices with integrity and an educated conscience effort toward identification, avoidance and where possible elimination of the known genetic problems.
Great emphasis has been exercised toward identifying a suitable disposition that is accommodating to a wide range of active lifestyles, by way of a calmer temperament and greater attention span for learning and application. We refer to this as Temperament Breeding, where both selection and avoidance of certain characteristics is a desired objective. Please permit us to offer some sound advice in relation to this breed. This breed can only be laid-back to a certain degree. This is certainly NOT a laid back bred by any stretch of the imagination. Either we sincerely embrace the lively activity requirement of the American Shepherd or we're best off avoiding ownership of this breed. Focus on temperament may work towards reducing certain anticipated traits, but it will never result in anything close to a Basset Hound in this working dog breed.
With pedigree dogs, it is important to try to avoid the bad stuff and perpetuate the good stuff. I won’t go into depth here about all that goes into ensuring a most ideal representation of a particular breed, but I will offer that much more, than most folks understand, is required to weed out the undesirable and perpetuate the desirable. Genetic health testing by a professional and reputable laboratory is the evolution of the modern breeding practice. Test for terminal genetic health defects is an essential part of what current pedigree breeders implement. Our dogs are either tested, or cleared of these terminal genetic health defects via parentage.
The health history of our dog’s pedigree is clear of known physical defects and deformities. Sound breeding practice typically establishes this great relief, with testing providing a further level of avoidance and subsequent relief from these undesirable genetic health problems
Our Mini Americans are descendants of very hardy working dogs who exhibit a much appreciated level of intelligence, loyalty, devotion, protective instincts and affection. This is certainly a breed that’s worthy of our investments and a joy to contribute too.
The Miniature American Shepherd or Miniature Australian Shepherd, whichever name one may prefer when referencing this breed, is a perpetuated smaller version of the fantastic Australian Shepherd. With a particular affinity for horses, as well as other livestock such as sheep, these dogs are most at home in the capacity of a true herding dog that works daily within a ranch environment. Ideal representations of the Mini Americans exhibit a natural superior desire to please, resulting in quick learning. These Minis are rugged self-motivated big league workers who instinctively focus on pleasing their human counterparts through a purpose based inner drive that’s revealed primarily through various learned task.
Mini Americans are, not overly aggressive toward either man or their kind. Mini Americans are known for being endearingly loyal and instinctively protective of their family or property, with a propensity to protect without delay yet without posing too much danger to strangers or intruders. They're too smart to be arbitrarily aggressive to other dogs/pets. Aggression toward other pets is unexpected from this breed and considered “unacceptable” by the registry club.
American Shepherds are very sensitive, which lends to their above average astuteness and quick ability to learn and desire to please their pack members. Discipline only requires a stern voice and aggressive body language. These dogs truly desire to please their Pack Leaders.
Mini Americans are very lively companions, always trying to identify the task at hand, apparently believing that they are routinely training us. In our unusual approach to training and socializing our puppies, we depend on the parents to naturally do their thing and help with this process, which greatly contributes to our applauded success.
The outstanding fur coat can be a Black Tri-color, a Blue Merle, a Red Tri-color, and a Red Merle. American Shepherds who are born a Merle will have a wide varying array of marbling, flecks, or blotches which together affect the fur, the eyes and the skin. American Shepherds are silky smooth in their agility as hard working hardy herding dogs or family pets that tirelessly play fetch and gladly accommodate a plethora of other physically demanding activities. They are capable of negotiating any terrain.
The Miniature American Shepherd is a relatively popular breed among the rankings, and particularly among active lifestyle folks who are capable of accommodating and complementing this breed. Mini Americans are among the very best companions for Back-country Campers & Backpackers as they will not back down (somewhat to their disadvantage and detriment) from threats.
Our Mini Americans are terrific representations of their breed, known for being very alert, always leery of strangers and quick to sniff out their suspicions or warn with a danger alert bark. They very much dislike unusual noises, which is how we get them to tilt their heads for cute photos.🤫😉 They appreciate familiar surroundings which contributes to their often not requiring a boundary fence.
Super laid back at times (which is probably intelligent patience), yet always ready to get lively & play. However, they are intelligent & astute enough to understand the necessity to adjust to various occasions. They are extremely affectionate & imprint on humans, usually one person more so than with people, with a disposition of desperately requiring human companionship.
Children: Oddly, they’re not fond of annoying younger children, unless the child can adequately throw a ball, but older children seem to be a perfect fit and they will be well guarded in the company of American Shepherds who, by nature and design, remain close and observant. We highly discourage this breed in families and situations where children are younger than eight years of age.
Height is 14-18 inches (male) and 13-17 inches (female) with weight around 20-40 pounds. The life expectancy is 12-13 years. This is most assuredly a herding group of dog.
These beautiful little balls of joy are often accused of being among the most loving dogs, when they're not distracted by a burning desire to fulfill a task. The primary LOVE LANGUAGE of an American Shepherd is fulfilling task, whether it be play or work, to the point of exhaustion.
A Pet Purchase Agreement is incorporated into the sale of each of our puppies/dogs. Our agreement/contract is intended to limit misunderstandings, convey and acknowledge expectations as well as protect all involved.
We are proud to be different, by not requiring a non-refundable reserve down payment. Our goals are clear and our approach is practical, 1). Great fit, 2). Lifelong commitments, 3). Genuine success.
We are eager to discuss the details of your potential furever friend.
